This is an amazing postcard (that was
quite costly but worth it). It has
everything going for it. A train station with a
steam engine, horses and carriages, box car on
the siding, and lots of period dress. I have left
this link large for you to enjoy the detail. A
beautiful early Alvinston Ontario postcard.

This is an interesting postcard that shows "
Sir Jas Whitney Premier of Ontario in his
special car at Alvinston Ont, in the interests
of Dr. J.B. Martyn." ca.1911. I don't
think that the premier is in the picture himself
but a cool period scene at Alvinston. Note the
Canadian and Ontario flags being held and
it looks like a nasty November day.

Just got these 3 post cards post marked ca.1913.
This one shows Alvinston train depot with a great
shot of train engine 8871, with a great shot of (I
assume) a Model T Ford
|
This one shows a great shot of train engine 408 at
the Roller Mills, J.Martyn and Company Alvinston.
|
This 3rd card in the lot shows J.M. Hamilton in
front of his Jewellery store in Alvinston

This is a single page from an Alvinston newspaper
from ca.1888.
It has some very interesting ads. I have scanned
both sides in 4 pieces,

Same Alvinston Ontario one room
schoolhouse but different date,
maybe earlier than the left pic

Probably older kids from the top 2
school pics. Sadly some of the girls in
the front row have suffered some kind of
horrific farm accident and
lost their legs.

Here is one of your
editor's favorite people, Don McGugan Mayor
of Alvinston. I had the pleasure of working
with Don for 15 years at Dow. I still see
Don at various local functions and wish I
owned property in the Alvinston area so I
could vote for Don just once.
