Sarnia Ontario
Sarnia is a city of about 73,500 people  16 miles West of Petrolia. Sarnia has a great history in shipping,lumber and the petrol/chemical industry. Hopefully I can provide a detailed history but for now here are all the Sarnia Ontario pics that I have. Below is an article for Sarnia Heritage that appeared in the Sarnia Observer Feb 16/08. The Gurd House below was magnificent and it was a shame to have been destroyed. If you are with Sarnia Heritage or just have pics or text for this space, I will be glad to post it here.

 Attached are a few pictures of my Grandfathers letters from his early life on the great lakes. He always had a love for the merchant vessels and wished he lived by the water to watch them everyday. This stemming from his young life on the waves during the steamer era of the early 1920's. Later in life he would make a trip to the Sault St. Marie locks and Welland cannel  and locks as often as he could.
For his 90th birthday we rented a bed and breakfast in Saint Claire, Michigan were we had a tour of the Light house on the St. Claire river. Then toured a boat ride up to the Black River by St. Mary.  Ferry back and forth at Ludington,MI and Manitowac, Wisconsin.
    So, as you see he loved the Great lakes up to the end of his life and we would be honored to have these letters of his displayed.

Eldon Mason was born June 6th 1906 in Lambton co.

A Whaleback Boat ( Atikokan)  run aground on the shore of the mighty St. Clair River near Marine City Michigan across from Sarnia Ontario. The post card is post marked ca. 1920.


This is the exterior of MacMurrays  Shoestore. This is a beautiful store that reflects classic deco style. I purchased this pic from a  Sarnia estate. The back has the name 'Pearson' on the back. Still not sure if it is a Sarnia store but will remain here as a very nice pic.

This an amazing shot of a shoe store. Possibly ca.1930s by the deco designs and shoe styles. The name  Sarnia is written on the back .
